Teach Me Tekkie

The Digital Classroom 2.0

Goodbye to a good friend.

Its a sad day today for all of us at JP, me especially.  Mr Smith, our Tec Technician is retiring today.  This means that he will not be working ever again – lucky man.

Mr B just wanted to mark this special day on TmT.com  and personally and publicly thank Mike for all his help, support and advice over the last 5 years i have known him.

The pupils all appreciate your help Mike and wanted me to let you know that they thank you for all the work you done for them and all the help you gave them.

Not much more i can add to this guys except to say that Mr Smith is irreplaceable.  Today Mr B will lose his Journeyman, his time-served mentor and his friend.

I will miss you mate!

Beatles Rock Band: Week 2

The second week of our Rock Band unit and things are getting serious in class. A little competition has broken out between groups from the jamming sessions but at the same time they are all supporting each other and helping out!

So what’s in store this week fo S3 GC.

Mon P7: Graphics as normal with Mr A.

Wed P1: Second jamming session with Mr B.

Thurs P6: Pupils have to hand in their homework at the start of the lesson. It was easy this week; each pupil was to graphically design a band logo/name and bring in a CD Jewel Case.

We will also be starting our first short Graphics Unit this week:- Producing our band tour poster and promotional literature. Part manual graphics, part computer aided graphics (CAG).

A hard days night!

Day 2 of our Games Based Learning unit of work and the pupils have really thrown themselves into the sessions on the instruments. A couple of the groups have already decided upon names and are working on logos – this is a surprise. The first 2 homework tasks have been set.

We spent the period jamming to a number of songs with scores ranging from 14,000 points to 110,000 yes ONE HUNDRED AND TEN THOUSAND points! I like the picture above because it shows two ‘lefties’ playing the guitars – a real challenge. (Paul McCartney is a lefty too).

Pupils are also supporting each other and each others groups by standing in for absentees and helping with singing – they are turning out to be really confident, effective contributors in class.

I have updated the BRB photo album on the right of the page as of today.

Stay tuned for more games based fun.

Beatles Rock Band – Lesson 1

This is a quick snap of some pupils getting familiar with BRB during our first session today.

During the lesson, pupils split into 5 groups of 4 and were set on the homework task of coming up with 1 possible band name and graphic or logo to go with the name of the band. This has to be presented to the whole band early next week. The 4 members of the band have also decided on their group roles within the band.

All is going well so far and the pupils ended the lesson jamming to some of the tutorial videos in the game just to get them used to the game…tomorrow it’s ‘jamming session’ number 1.

Games Based Learning In JPA

mrbrockThe wait is finally over!  From today, my S3 pupils will be taking part in a Games Based Learning unit of work.  We will be playing Beatles Rock Band in class, forming our own competitive groups, setting challenges based upon the game and undertaking work in Graphics that is based around the Beatles Rock Band game.

This is a first for JPA and possibly a first for Glasgow.

Mr B has worked with a number of people to make sure that you all get maximum enjoyment from this GBL unit of work whilst still getting the chance to develop your skills and produce Graphics work for your folios.

I hope it has been worth the wait guys?  I will use the blog to store videos and photos from the unit of work so that you can show your families what we are doing.

Check the link on the right of the page for our photos.

Oh Oh! It could be too late….
