Beatles Rock Band: Week 2

The second week of our Rock Band unit and things are getting serious in class. A little competition has broken out between groups from the jamming sessions but at the same time they are all supporting each other and helping out!

So what’s in store this week fo S3 GC.

Mon P7: Graphics as normal with Mr A.

Wed P1: Second jamming session with Mr B.

Thurs P6: Pupils have to hand in their homework at the start of the lesson. It was easy this week; each pupil was to graphically design a band logo/name and bring in a CD Jewel Case.

We will also be starting our first short Graphics Unit this week:- Producing our band tour poster and promotional literature. Part manual graphics, part computer aided graphics (CAG).

Perhaps these guys can save us!

Graphics Podcast – The Input/Output Process

Yet another Graphic Communication Podcast has been uploaded and is now available on iTunes. Podcast 16 is titled ‘Input-Process-Output’ and is a 3 minute audio podcast explaining the basics of computer systems. It is particularly useful for study for the Knowledge area of the course.

Massive Photo Album Update

Hi all. There has been a MASSIVE update to out Photo Albums on the Blog (Much thanks due to MrA our new blog editor). You an now view a Product Design folio, some Graphics work AND loads and loads of Craft projects and ideas too. Just click the photo album to go to the album. Simples!

S3 GC: Signs and Symbols

We are currently exploring Signs and Symbols in our Graphics class. We are looking at colour and shape used in different signs i.e.

What colours and shapes should be used on safety signboards?

* Red for prohibition
* Yellow for caution
* Green for positive action
* Blue for mandatory actions
* O Discs for prohibitions and instructions
* Δ Triangles for warnings
* □ Squares and rectangles for emergency and information signs

Well, it may be scorching out here but Mrs B has sat and looked at all the competition entries and come up with the final 3. It was a stressful process for her, so stressful she ate 3 big crackers with cheese! Well done to all our entrants – your ideas were all great. So, here are the shortlisted final 3…..

Your Learning Style-How do you learn best ???

We started working on our Learning Style questionaires today. S3 GC used Google Docs online to begin to explore their prefered learning style in class. This should help us all focus on specific ways to teach and learn so that we can fully achieve our potential in the subject. I will post the results once all pupils have completed the task so you can compare with each other – results so far are VERY interesting!!!

Another Podcast update has been released full of fab things!

Podcast 10, titled “Basic Orthographic Drawing” is, well, eh, a basic ortho drawing task – suitable for all Graphics and Craft & Design students.

Podcast 11 is a cracking Exam preparation & relaxation audio file courtesy of our friends over at Do-Be Ltd.

Podcast 12 is an explanation of what you will find on the “Learn-it” mp4 player’s you will soon be seeing in class.

S3 Homework Task

The following homework task is for ALL my S3 pupils.

Sign into google from the Google home page and go to Google Docs.

I have posted the S3 Exam feedback form via email to everyone who has an email address. You should then either-

1. Complete the feedback form in full online, save it, rename it to your name and upload and share it back to me at my DonCurlywurly gmail address (remember the @ before gmail)

2. Save the document to your PC and print it out then fill it in the old fashioned way and return it to me.

All homework should be submitted by Thursday 21st May at Lunchtime.

If you choose not to take part in this task you will be disqualified from the MP4 Competition!

I will offer support in class over the next week if needed and you can contact me through this blog as well.

Google Docs is accessable everywhere, so no excuses for not doing homework guys!

Remember to verify your Google Account at your live or hotmail inbox or junk folder!

S3 Competition-Win a Philips MP4 Player

Yes, you can be the proud owner of this, brand new Philips GoGear 2GB MP4 Player.

Your prize will be loaded with the latest Podcasts and study tips, leaving plenty of room for your own music and videos.

All you have to do is rename this Blog. I’m not too happy with the name so, why don’t you come up with a better one?

Competition Rules:

1. Only 1 entry allowed per pupil.

2. All entries must be submitted through the Blog competition link.

3. The new name must be relevant to our Blog!

4. Your first entry is the only one that will count-so think before you enter.

5. A shortlist of 10 entries will be chosen from all suggestions. You will be notified if you make the top 10, then the top 3.

6. Pupils who do not complete homework will not be entitled to enter the competition.

7. Pupils who cannot access the Blog may only enter after discussing it with me!

8. My decision is final.
